# Deposit Request Message Templates for Salons (Text and Email)

A good deposit request names the amount, says it goes toward the service, gives a payment link and a deadline, and points to your cancellation policy. Ask at booking when you can. When you follow up by text or email, keep it short. The templates below cover a new client, a high-value service, a rebook after a no-show, a full email, and pushback replies.

## When should you ask a client for a deposit?

**Ask at the moment of booking.** That is cleaner than chasing the deposit later. The client already chose a time; pairing the hold with a deposit is the natural next step.

- **New clients.** You have no show history yet. A deposit protects the first slot and sets the tone for how you run the studio.
- **High-value or long services.** Color, lash sets, full-day packages, and anything that blocks a big chunk of the calendar deserve a deposit so an empty hour does not wipe the day.
- **Peak times and weekends.** Saturday mornings and pre-holiday weeks refill slowly once they empty. A deposit keeps those slots real.
- **After a no-show or late cancel.** Requiring a deposit on the next booking is fair, and it usually ends the pattern without a fight. See our [no-show text message templates](/guides/no-show-text-message-templates) and [late cancellation email template](/guides/late-cancellation-email-template) for the cleanup messages; this page covers the deposit ask that follows.

If you are still deciding how much to take and whether to use a deposit or full prepay, start with [take deposits or full payment](/guides/take-deposits-or-full-payment) and [how to take deposits for appointments](/blog/how-to-take-deposits-for-appointments).

Chasing a deposit by text works when booking already happened without one. Taking it through the booking flow is better: less awkward, fewer forgotten links, and the slot is only held once they pay.

## What should a deposit request text say?

These are sent from your own phone, by text or iMessage. Rezzy does not send SMS, so copy the one you need and paste it into your messages app. Each text states the amount, what it covers, how to pay, the deadline, and where the policy lives.

### New client

Use this when someone books with you for the first time and you need a deposit to hold the spot.

> Hi [Name], thanks for booking [service] on [day] at [time]! To hold that spot, we take a $[amount] deposit that goes toward your service. You can pay here by [deadline]: [payment link]. Our cancellation policy is here if you want a look: [policy link]. Excited to meet you!

### High-value service

Use this for color, extensions, lash sets, or any booking that takes a long block on the calendar.

> Hi [Name], confirming your [service] on [day] at [time]. Because this is a longer booking, we hold it with a $[amount] deposit applied to the service total. Pay here by [deadline]: [payment link]. Cancels and reschedules follow the policy at [policy link]. Looking forward to it!

### Rebooking after a no-show

Use this when you are offering a new time after a missed appointment and now require a deposit under your policy.

> Hi [Name], I can hold [day] at [time] for your [service]. Going forward we take a $[amount] deposit to book, applied to the visit. Pay here by [deadline] and the spot is yours: [payment link]. Policy details: [policy link].

## What should a deposit request email say?

Email works when the client booked by form or when you want a clearer paper trail than a text thread. Send it from your own inbox the same day you need the deposit.

> **Subject:** Deposit to hold your [day] at [time] booking
>
> Hi [Name],
>
> Thanks for booking [service] on [day] at [time]. To hold that appointment, we ask for a $[amount] deposit. It goes toward your service total.
>
> Please complete payment here by [deadline]: [payment link]
>
> If you need to cancel or reschedule, our policy is here: [policy link]. Once the deposit is in, you are all set.
>
> Thanks,
> [Your name], [Studio name]

## What do you say when a client pushes back on a deposit?

Keep it warm and firm. Offer the policy link. Do not apologize for having a deposit. You are protecting the calendar, not picking a fight.

### "I've never had to leave a deposit before"

> Totally get it. We started taking deposits so we can hold real times for everyone. The $[amount] goes toward your [service], and the full policy is here: [policy link]. Once it is paid, your [day] at [time] is locked in: [payment link]

### "Can you just hold it without a deposit?"

> I wish I could. We only hold spots once the deposit is in, otherwise the time opens back up. Happy to keep [day] at [time] for you as soon as the $[amount] is paid here: [payment link]. Policy for cancels is at [policy link].

### "What if I need to cancel?"

> Fair question. Under our policy at booking, [brief plain-language rule, e.g. cancels with 24+ hours notice can move the deposit to a new date]. Full details are here: [policy link]. If you still want the spot, the deposit link is [payment link].

## Deposit request do's and don'ts

| Do | Don't |
|---|---|
| State the exact dollar amount | Say "a small deposit" with no number |
| Say it goes toward the service | Frame it only as a penalty |
| Give a payment link and a clear deadline | Ask them to "Venmo me when you can" with no date |
| Point to the cancellation policy | Invent a stricter rule after they push back |
| Ask at booking whenever you can | Chase days later with a vague "hey, still coming?" |
| Keep the text to a few short sentences | Write a paragraph about how empty slots hurt you |
| Stay consistent across clients | Waive deposits for friends, then surprise everyone else |

**Short and matter of fact beats long and apologetic.** The client should finish the message knowing the amount, where to pay, and what happens if plans change.

> **Want deposits handled at booking instead of by chase?** Rezzy collects deposits on every plan when clients book, so you send fewer of these follow-ups. [Try Rezzy](/signup) with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

## How does Rezzy handle deposits?

Rezzy takes the deposit in the booking flow, so you rarely have to chase it by text.

- **Deposits at booking** are on every plan. Clients pay when they reserve, and the amount goes toward the service under your policy.
- **Email confirmations and reminders** go out automatically on every plan.
- **Card-on-file fees** for no-shows or late cancels are on every plan too.
- **Your booking and payment links** are the same ones you paste into any template above.
- **Saving these as reusable templates**, along with campaigns and email autopilot, is on the Unlimited plan. See [plans on the homepage](/#pricing).

Setup steps live in [take deposits or full payment](/guides/take-deposits-or-full-payment). Texts stay on your own phone. Rezzy does not send SMS. If you also text or email clients about offers or news, check [how marketing consent works](/guides/how-marketing-consent-works) first. A deposit request is about a booking they made, not a promotion.
