Referral Request Email Templates for Salons (Copy and Paste)
A good referral request email goes to a happy client a day or two after a visit they loved. It names one kind of friend who would like you, gives them your booking link to pass on, and asks once. When a new client says who sent them, thank the person who referred them within a day.
Below: an everyday ask, a note for regulars, an ask after a big moment, a thank-you, and a version with a reward. Want referrals from the business next door too? See salon referral partnerships.
When should you ask a client for a referral?
Ask right after a visit they told you they loved. The compliment is your cue.
- After a great visit: a day or two later, while they’re still showing it off.
- After a big moment: a wedding, a first color, a transformation they posted.
- Once a year for regulars: they’d refer you anytime, they just haven’t been asked.
Ask each client once in a while, not after every visit.
What should a referral request email say?
- Their first name.
- Why you’re asking them. “You’re one of my favorite people to see.”
- Who to send. “A friend who’s been looking for a colorist” is easier to act on than “anyone.”
- One link. Your booking link, so the friend can book without calling.
- One ask. No follow-up. A referral is a favor.
What should a referral request email look like?
Swap the brackets. Cut any line that doesn’t apply.

What are the do’s and don’ts of referral request emails?
| Do | Don’t |
|---|---|
| Ask clients who just told you they loved it | Ask after a visit that went wrong |
| Name one kind of friend | Say “anyone you know” |
| Send one link to your booking page | Ask them to call or DM for you |
| Thank every referral within a day | Thank only the ones who earned a reward |
| Keep one reward for everyone | Make up a different deal each time |
| Keep referrals separate from reviews | Offer a reward for a Google review |
A reward for sending a friend is fine. A reward for a review is not, because Google’s rules don’t allow it. Keep the two asks in separate emails. For reviews, use the review request email templates.
More templates: a new client welcome email for the friend’s first booking, and a price increase email when your prices change.
How do you send a referral request email in Rezzy?
Campaigns and saved templates are on the Unlimited plan. On Solo or Studio, you email one client at a time.
- One client at a time. Open the client in Clients, choose Actions, then Send email, and paste a template. This is the best way to send the everyday ask and the thank-you, since both are personal. See email a client.
- On Unlimited, send a campaign to regulars. Go to Marketing, then Emails, then Campaigns. Swap the brackets for
{{first_name}},{{business_name}}, and{{booking_link}}. To reach only some clients, pick Tagged clients and a tag like “vip.” Send a test to myself, then send now or schedule it. See send a campaign. - Keep the wording. On a sent campaign’s page, choose Save as template (Unlimited). See save and reuse email templates.
- Track referrals yourself. Rezzy has no referral rewards or discount codes. When a new client names who sent them, add a “referral” tag and a note on the new client’s page, and a note on the referrer’s page with the reward you owe. See add a client and keep notes.
- Who it reaches. These emails go only to clients who agreed to marketing email. See how marketing consent works.
